30 Jul 2010 / Nib photos
It is often that I receive special requests for retips on special pens. Such is the request on this nib which belongs on a Virginia Woolf. The client requested that a smooth, stub/italic be placed on this nib, of which now the nib is has. Photos below show some of the attention to detail and symmetry I give to my retips, as well as the polished writing surface.

30 Jul 2010 / Pen Shows
Well, the D.C. Pen Show is just around the corner! I had my airline ticket, hotel reservations all lined up, then I got a grand jury summons; ever try to get out of a grand jury summons? Forget it! So, while you are all having fun, I will be sitting in some room with a book, or my iPhone, waiting to go on a panel.
Save a few pens for me to retip while you are there and send them to me. I will be working on pens/nibs at night after being in court all day, so there will be no delay in your orders/retips. I guess it is the price you pay for being a citizen, I could think of worse things!

So, your nib feels a bit scratchy, but “seems” to be in good condition; tines are aligned, feed is aligned; Look again at the tipping! Such was the case with this Waterman nib. I think there are more craters on this tipping then on the moon
After a retip to a rounded extra fine, the owner of this nib will be happy with a much smoother writing experience.

There has been a quite a discussion on the Fountain Pen Network about Noodler’s ink. I can only go by my years of experience with this ink in that it is quite caustic to pens, at least the pens I have dealt with. Such was the case with a recent repair I received from a client, his S.T. Dupont. Using Noodler’s ink (not sure the color or “fancy name” Noodler’s assigns to its inks to market it colors) the ink, in about four days, chemically melted the feed. Photos below are of the feed still in the pen, and then when I removed it, which was difficult, as the feed was stuck in the section, which was also damaged, but hard to photograph to show what happened.
Least to say, the client was not too happy, especially with the repair bill from S.T. Dupont!

Nice pen, equally nice broad ball retip! After some modification of the feed to support this nib, the ink flows freely for grand, wet signatures on important documents. Rounded ball assures smooth writing. Notice that the white plating has been preserved on the nib as well, a tricky thing to do when doing a retip of this size.I can do this for you! Let me retip your nib to this size or smaller. Turn around right now (July, 2010) is only one week!

So, you purchased a fairly nice fountain pen, but the ink just does flow? The pen came from “someone” on the internet, and they assured you the pen would be in good condition. Yet, the ink does not come out. No amount of shaking and pressing will make the ink flow.
Such is the case with this recent repair from a good client. He sent me his Parker 75 Lapis. Photos below show the damage to the feed once I removed the nib to inspect. Someone had taken a sharp instrument, perhaps a nail, to “grove” out the feed channels. Done rather poorly as you can see.
First photo is of the damaged feed, and the second photo is of a new, undamaged feed.

Okay, so a juicy retip may not be for everyone, but then some folks love paint brushes. Pictured below is a retip I did this morning for a very nice, sterling Ferrari da Varese pen for one of my VIP clients. He enjoys large, super broad ball retips. Can’t get them any wetter then this otherwise the ink will drip on the page

How fast can you empty the ink on this pen
