• Wow! I did not expect the overwhelming response that I received from all you folks for the Parker 51 music nib I recently created! Thank you so very much. Not only do I have orders for over a dozen of them, I was asked to fit one of the music nibs into a pen, which I have done this evening. Pictured below is one of my “growing” stock of nibs fitted to a blue Areometric pen. As you can see, the line is very broad, and very wet!

Okay all you Parker 51 collectors, I finally did it! After much engineering thought and consideration, I have attempted, and completed, the first Parker 51 music nib. Check out the photos below.

I also did two vent holes, using micro drills, so that there will be proper air return on the nib, being that its so large. Measuring about 1.40mm in size, I am sure that this nib will find a home. Inquiry about the price, it will not last long!

Wow! Finally a Parker 51 Music nib!

Hard to believe, but all these pens came from the same person! Variety is the key here, and as you can see in the first photo below, its the spice of life :-)

Well, this was a very special treat! a select number of members from the Southern California Studio Group had the rare opportunity to visit Me and my workshop on Saturday, April 25th. Lunch was provided by my artist wife Janet (and also a member of the studio group.) Suffice it to say after the delicious cornucopia of fresh California salads, fruits and snacks, the group was then treated to a 1 hour presentation by myself on the virtues of fountain pens, with modifications.

Mind you these artistic folks from all over the L.A. and Orange County area are experts in their fields, and they all excel in the calligraphic arts. Picture below testify to their wonderful calligraphy hands as the group was presented with a combination of vintage and modern fountain pens, each sporting different regrinds. After a 20 minute introduction of myself and our activity for the day, everyone passed around various Bexley pens, a few vintage Parker Vacumatics, and a number of my famous extra broad Parker 51 retips. The only Namiki Falcon pen I had that was modified to be flexible and was reground to an extra fine tip was quickly purchased.

We had a raffle too! The winner received a nicely restored Parker 51 Areometric in cordovan brown; way to go Geri, who was the winner.

Looking forward to another get together soon ladies! Thanks for your attention and of course business.

Thank you Jeen for your wonderful testimonial on The Fountain Pen Network!

As you may know from my recent post, I added a 149 with a broad nib to the stable. It wrote perfectly out of the box, but I use some luxurious and more challenging stationery, and noticed the edges of the stubbish tip caught occasionally on some papers. I sent the pen and a paper sample to Greg, and after thoroughly testing and examining the pen, told me there was nothing wrong with the pen and that my paper was the culprit. After a few more emails, Greg asked for my phone number to chat about how to proceed. I was quite impressed by this level of service and his honesty in trying to avoid unnecessary work. After explaining further, Greg said he could smooth the edges and maintain most of the stubbish characteristics of the nib. Now the nib writes dreamily on any stationery I throw at it, and won’t catch at all even when I rotate the nib. He also charged me less than the original estimate and gave me a turnaround time of a little over a week! For excellent nib work and re-tippping with fast turnaround I highly recommend Greg Minuskin. His website is www.gregminuskin.com

    Happy writing,
    Jeen

What a pen! What a pen! Surely this limited edition Taj Mahal sliver filigree Visconti is something to marvel at. But what a dull and boring nib it was before I received it for a nice, juicy stub regrind. Now, the client will be so happy with this pen now that it has a custom regrind.

So, you decided to regrind your own nib, and went a bit too far :-) Not to worry, I am here to help you out, just like I helped out the owner of this nib pictured below. Back in business, sporting a new, 1.2mm oblique italic.

Hopefully the sand paper used on this nib has been retired to the wood shop!

For those of you that have purchased a really nice flexible Waterman’s nib, only to find out that the tipping that is on there is a bit too wide to get those nice, thin lines with a light touch, I have the solution for you; a regrind will solve this problem!

Below is a recent example of just such a case. The nib is a really nice, and very flexible Waterman’s number #2, but was just too wide to achieve very fine lines. Regrinding the original tipping to a much finer profile has now increased the line variation of the nib as pressure is varied. Great results with this process can also be done with other, less flexible nibs. Email me today with your specific needs and I will be happy to assist you. Remember, Turn around time is only 2 weeks!!! I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Amazing what a regrind will do!

Want to see some really great pens with custom stub regrinds from me? I did all of the regrinds to these pens for Bryant Greer in the last month or so (yes, you read correctly, only in the last month; there is no 5 to 6 month wait at the Minuskin pen shop!)

Suffice it to say he is very proud of his collection, and the nibs too! It was an honor to regrind these wonderful pens for Bryant. Please go to the link below to view this amazing collection with my custom regrinds. Bryant even has a rainbow color writing sample of each pen/nib on one piece of paper, it is so beautiful!

    Thank you Bryant!
