For you fans of Parker 51′s, here are two custom retips that came across my workbench today. One is a broad retip, the other, a 30 degree oblique italic, whew! My client who sent me these retips is looking for something different to write with, other then the boring, fine tips these pens usually come with. Can’t wait to see how they write when my client puts them in his pens.

Now here is a fine pair of pens that was sent to me by one of my top clients for modification! These two pens are a pair of Limited Edition Delta Enrico Caruso 1873, one with white trim and nib, the other with gold trim and nib. My client requested that these two pens are to be modified with a BBB, ball-type retips. This is a delicate retip operation, as one has to be very careful during retipping process because the design on the front of both nibs is easily damaged. As you can see, both retips went well, and they are very wet writers; just what the client wants!

Well, Fall is here! Time to cozy up next to a fireplace and think about getting back into the routine of writing letters with your favorite fountain pen. That is exactly what these two people want to do, and they sent me their pens to modify. The first pen is an Esterbrook, customized with a rather sharp, very fine, italic, for small writing. The owner of this pen is going to use it for journaling. The owner of the second pen, pictured below, a Bexley yellow pen, wanted an everyday writer with a bit more flair then a standard stub. This regrind is a bit more sharp then a stub, and it shows in the writing sample. Both pens will provide their owners with some really wonderful written correspondence.

Watch for my next post; I will be picking up a very nice and early Montblanc 244 with a fantastic #4 flex nib, and it will be for sale!

It has been a couple of days, and I have been quite busy with some regrinds that have come in. Pictured below is a very nice Sailor 1911 that the client requested I add more flex to the nib. As you can see, for those who know what a standard Sailor 1911 two tone nib looks like, the “shoulders” have been evenly raked back to add flex. The wonderful sample writing by my wife Janet, a master calligrapher, demonstrates the possibilities that such a practiced hand as hers can now do with this nib.

Hi all! Today’s pen was sent to me by a client who wanted a regrind to his BB nib for his Demonstrator Pelikan pen. He also complained that the pen was a hard starter, in that it did not immediately write when the nib touched the paper. Often I have seen factory Pelikan nibs that have been screwed into the pen body with such force, that the soft gold of the nib becomes “rounded” in the process. This results in the nib surface not sitting flat on the paper; sort of like a pigeon toe effect. Anyhow, after flatting the end of the nib, and doing the regrind, this pen is now a real nice, smooth, and juicy BB stub!

A new client today sent me his Sailor nib for a 1mm stub retip. Notice how even the retipped ball is on the nib. Just the nib was sent to me by the client, therefore I am not able to test the nib as if it was in the actual pen.  I was able to dip the nib to see somewhat the line width it would produce, but it would be best if I had the complete pen to conduct a true test.  One can see the readout on digital calibers which clearly shows the 1mm size.

Now here is a fun nib! The client requested an italic regrind for his M800 Pelikan blue stripe pen. After careful attention was given to making sure the nib is straight and level, the regrind was done. Smooth, but sharp line producing great line variation.

    Howdy Folks!

Here is a dandy of a repair; very sentimental Sheaffer’s desk pen with a steel nib. The nib was all twisted up, now, its all nice and straight.
