Sure do not see these pens that often! Let alone three of them together. Such is the world of Chilton collectors, very rare pens indeed, in any condition.

One of these pens is a rare Ford V8 model, denoted by the “V8″ logo on the cap.

I have restored the nibs to these pens, retipping them with standard sizes, fine and medium. Also I have restored the filling system (very unique, and quite efficient!) New ink sacs fill completely, and quickly too. Enjoy the photos and I hope to hear from you soon with your pen that needs repair.

Now here is a curious pen that came in for a stub regrind today. Marked as a Tiffany “Atlas” pen, sporting a custom nib design too, see photos.

As I am sure many of your can recognize, this is actually a Pelikan M800 black, with a slightly more fancy, faceted back end/gold piston body near the rear of the pen, and of course the nib. I bet for a fraction of the cost of this pen, one can purchase a nice M800 and get the same performance, then again, it is not a Tiffany & Co.

After I reground medium nib to a nice stub which will provide the owner years of writing pleasure with some character. By the way, the turn around time was just two days for this regrind, and no extra/rush charge either!

Here is a nice regrind to a standard Platinum Music Nib. The client who sent this pen to me from Singapore wanted a thinner cross stroke, while still maintaining the smoothness. This can be tricky with a music nib, as you have to have all three tines aligned.

My client was very pleased with the results, and cannot wait to write with the pen! Here is his comments:

“I am again, greatly impressed by Greg’s work ! This time it’s not just
drooling over the pictures of the nibs he posted in his web …. but my own
    Platinum Music Nib !
Not only is his work good, his response and patience is definitely something
    I must mention.
I am glad I sent my nib for him to regrind, and… no regrets at all !!”

Tail cracks, vent hole cracks? I can fix them for you. Pictured below are some photos of some recent tail crack repairs. As you can see, the top of the nib is smoothed and made to look as close to the original as possible. Underneath, the nib is well repaired, and strengthened. These cracks will not open up again, using my repair methods.

Every week I receive emails from a few folks who are looking for a little more “fun” with their otherwise boring, standard nib unit for their Parker 75. I have a client that when I receive a Parker 75, or he does, it must be “super balled” in order to make a more pleasing signature pen. Pictured below is one of many creations, taking a damaged, standard fine nib, removing the nib from the feed (no easy trick!) and then super-sizing it with one of my famous large retips.

    1.5mm broad ball retip

    .
Abi has a real fondness for smooth, broad ball retips on many of his Montblanc nibs. This 75th Anniversary 149 Montblanc nib is now sporting one of these broad ball retips, and for sure Abi says below he is so happy with it, thank you Abi!

    Dear Greg,

Received the Masterpiece work of art in the mail today :)

Thank you so much for the lightning speed retipping and delivery. I appreciate it very much.
The nib is incredibly smooth and simply glides on paper. An absolute beauty not just to behold, but more importantly to write with.
The nib is a delight when put to paper Greg. I want to thank you so much for doing such an excellent job, as always !
I came home today, and have been writing with it all evening. It is just amazing. It clearly shows how much care and dedication you put into your work Greg.

All the pens so far in my rotation have your wonderful nibs on them, and I would not think of using anything else.

Thank you so much again for accepting my request, and for being so fast with everything Greg.

    My sincere regards and thanks,

    – Abi

So, you think your nib is in good shape, then it is removed from the pen, and it comes out in pieces! What caused this? On older pens with hard rubber sections, the sections often shrink, squeezing the nib and the feed. The feed, being hard rubber as well, is usually not affected, but the gold, being brittle, is stressed, and pictured above is the usual result. Mostly though cracked nibs stay in one piece and just need the crack sealed up. It is a rare case when the nib completely cracks through and is in pieces.

For those nibs that are just cracked, but still whole, I can fix them for only $40-$55 each plus postage, and the turn around time is just two weeks! Email me today for your crack repair needs today.

Can you see the ink between the tines?

    .
Often I receive pens that just will not write; the tines are too close together, keeping the ink from flowing. In order correct this, I have to often remove the nib and carefully adjust the tines to the feed/section in order to get the tines slightly apart, so that ink will flow. As you can see in the above photo, there is ink between the tines on this fine Pilot 742 nib. Before, the tines were not aligned, and too close together. Now the owner of this pen will have a smooth writing experience with a consistent ink flow.

Do you have this problem with your pen? Let me know, and I can assist you with just a 1-2 week turn around, and a cost of around $50-80 plus postage for each pen. Quick service with fair pricing will make your pen feel like a dream :-)

    Wide and Wet Flow

    Greg,

I retrieved my pen at the post office this morning and just finished a test drive. I love it! You hit the sweet spot between line variation and smoothness, and it feels right in my hand now. Guess I’ll have to buy more ink to take advantage of the bold line it lays down :)

    Thanks again,

    Mike D.

This nib started out as a factory broad oblique. Mike D. was just not used to the “oblique” aspects of the nib, and requested to have the nib reground to a stub. The challenge with this sort or regrind is that many times the vintage tipping material, in order to create a broad oblique, has tipping material that is also “oblique” in that one tine has more material on it then the other, kinda of lopsided if you would.

So, to grind this nib straight, while making sure you do not loose tipping material/the balance of the nib, some planning has to be taken in order to do it right the first time. I usually photo the nib to be ground, print the photo, and then draw on the photo the steps/angles to regrind in order to maximize the original tipping, in this case, a straight regrind/stub creation.

    .
    Greg,
You did a BEAUTIFUL job. WOW!
Please e-mail me the exact cost with shipping and I will mail you the check tomorrow. I am definitley going to send you more pens for re-tipping in the near future. The photo writing sample looks really cool.

    Sincerley,
    Alan

This was a fun retip. Large, 1.4mm stub retip to a small nib and pen, which Alan requested. Being a smaller pen, with less ink reserve, I sure hope that there is a bottle of ink somewhere so that this pen can be filled quickly! Thanks so much Alan, I am glad you are happy and I look forward to more pens from you real soon!
