So, you have this really nice, and rare nib, and it has a tail crack? Don’t rely on someone to botch the repair with a welding torch; I have my own, much safer, patented method of sealing up those cracks where they will never open up again.

Photos below of a rare Chilton Wingflow nib with a crack in the tail. Actually, this crack did not go all the way through, which is a more difficult crack to repair.

  • Well, out of the blue (actually the screen of the computer) I received an email from Jeff S. He was just dropping me a quick note to say how happy he was with his recently acquired 1.3mm custom stub Sheaffer Triumph pen he purchased from Gerry Berg, one of the leading, if not the best Sheaffer plunger pen repair person out there. Pictures below, and Jeff’s comments about the pen.

    Greg:
I love this Triumph w/your nib. I almost bought a pen with a 1.3 stub but I was told that if you write small (like I do) that a smaller
    stub would be best.

Thanks again for your great workmanship!!!

    Jeff S.

Sheaffer TRIUMPH plunger-filler (93WH) in “golden brown” stripe with a 1.1mm STUB tipped nib by GREG MINUSKIN
    .

    .
Created by GREG MINUSKIN, this STUB is VERY SMOOTH AND LAYS DOWN A JUICY LINE.
    HANDWRITING SAMPLE BELOW:

    .
Here is an ideal combination: the rugged Sheaffer Triumph nib with a 1.1mm stub and one of the plunger-filling ink “tankers” of the 1940s. THE 1.1mm STUB USES A LOT OF INK, AND THE PROPERLY RESTORED PLUNGER-FILLER HOLDS LOT OF INK (See note below on PLUNGER-FILLER RESTORATION). This ORIGINAL TRIUMPH nib has been re-tipped and ground by the West Coast nibmeister, GREG MINUSKIN.

Do you know about Big Sur? It is located on the central coast of California, about 300 miles north of Los Angeles. A quick weekend visit by my wife Janet and I to this place for her artwork resulted in some amazing photos below. If you every have a chance to visit Big Sur, best to come in the Spring, or Fall, as the crowds are mostly gone (kids are back in school) and the weather is just wonderful. We were fortunate on this weekend trip as it rained the previous days and the scenery was just fantastic, as you can see! Enjoy!

Another great email and photos from my good client in South Korea! I sold him a Green Sheaffer’s Snorkel with a custom extra fine regrind, that writes both in the normal way, and upside down, for an even finer line. His comments below:

With this special Sheaffe’sr valiant Green pen by you, I tried to write Marcel Proust’s paragraph titled “The Birch Tree.”

This green Snorkel pen seems to be well matched with Montblanc Racing Green ink in it, and it lends itself quite well to write out Proust’s self-reflection/writings. I have re-copied it during the quiet time I have had the opportunity to also draw from Proust’s words the very birch trees Proust talks about so poetically.

This Snorkel pen is more historic than any Montblnc and very meanigful to me.
The reason is that the old pen has been reborned by you for me.

As you see my handwriting and drawing, the pen now provides possibilities for writing and artwork!

Right (normal) writing: fine point for speed writing.
Upside down writing: memo and sketch.

There is plenty of ink flow that allows for such multi-uses!
    Thanks so very much Greg!

Amazing Artistry using a custom Pelikan M805 broad sharp italic oblique regrind

Amazing Artistry using a custom Pelikan M805 broad sharp italic oblique regrind

    .
Another recent regrind from my workshop for one of my very good clients in South Korea. The Pelikan M805 submitted for regrind was a standard, factory broad oblique. Making sure that this nib will be sharp, and still retaining the oblique nature, is a challenge to regrind. The edge of the tipping is left so that crisp, block letting can be achieved. Suffice it to say that my very industrious, and exceptionally talented client in South Korea has taken this nib to a higher level, creating artwork that is “Music” to both the creator of the artwork, and also the observer, as you can see with the photo below. My client says:

    Just look!
Lovely tonight, you could hear the string of Greg Minuskin’s special pen!

I think this rings true on the right “note :-)
